Pet Owner Story

               Spanky & Darla

Two “Little Rascals” Find a New Home

Darla and Spanky came to the shelter in April after they were found wandering around Mentor as strays. The pair was named after the characters Darla and Spanky from the old Our Gang comedy movie shorts filmed in the 1920’s. The LHS staff became very attached to the two beautiful and very fluffy felines not only because of their appearance but because of their great personalities. The two-year old pair captured the attention of their new “mom” when she visited the shelter on September 6th. Having recently lost a dearly loved cat, Pat was looking for new companions for her remaining cat. She fell in love with Darla and Spanky at first sight.  “I just love big, fluffy cats”, she told our staff while filling out the adoption papers. Pat tells us that Darla is still a little shy but Spanky (much like his namesake) is fun-loving, outgoing and has adjusted well to his new surroundings.

LHS has many beautiful cats and kittens that need homes just like Darla and Spanky. Come in and visit us soon to find a loving companion for your family. Every home needs some “little rascals”!

Zac

Zac Celebrates a Belated Valentines Day

Zac, our “resident” German Shepard has officially been adopted!  He had been staying at Lake Humane since November 2006 and was just waiting for that right person to come along. Sure enough, this past Saturday, that person walked in, saw Zac, and it was love at first sight - for both new owner and dog.  Zac will now reside in a loving home in the countryside with a nice big backyard to frolic and play in.

Special note:
A special thank you to all of the volunteers and staff at Lake Humane for providing the excellent care and support needed during Zac’s training and exercise programs. I would also like to express my gratitude to the efforts of volunteer Susan Lucci and her working with Zac on a regular basis.  The extra loving that Zac received from all at Lake Humane really helped make this the perfect Valentine adoption.

Charlotte
Mike Medakovich I wanted to give you an update on Charlotte. I adopted her at the end of October. When I got her you said that she had been kept outdoors or in the garage and that she was partially house trained. You also said she needed a lot of love.

Well Charlotte has become the most wonderful dog. All she needed was the proper amount of attention. After a couple months of crate training and a few accidents she has become house broken. She loves to follow me around. We go for at least one long walk per day and about three shorter 15 minute walks. While on the walks she is always looking for bunnies. I only let her chase them a little from the leash as I really don't want her to catch one.

Charlotte has several toys that include a stuffed fox, squirrel and bunny. She loves to throw them around the house. She is learning how to play which usally involves treats in order to get her interested. It is true that you can teach an older dog new tricks - Charlotte is three years old.

We are now going to obedience school. She has quickly learned the commands sit, stay and heel.

Charlotte has become a great companion.

Aaron Benz Our family couldn't be happier with Blue as an addition. The kids enjoy how he is constantly following them around and even fight over who's bed he is going to sleep in. We look forward to seeing everybody at Lake Humane real soon.

Macey
Bob Moses Macey truly defines the words Happy Ending.  With her constantly wagging tail and ever-smiling face, she has lived with her forever family now for six years.

She originally came to the Lake Humane Society in 1999 from a family that was relocating out of state.  Because they could not take her with them, Macey was surrendered to the humane society.

Shortly thereafter, she participated in an adoption campaign held at the South Euclid Library.  It was not long before a family, led by a lively six-year old little girl, spotted Macey.  The rest was history.

Today, Macey enjoys long morning walks with her Dad and Mom and is a constant and loving companion to her human sister Jess!
