We Need Your Help

Although Lake Humane Society takes in thousands of animals every year, there are never enough warm cages and loving hands to care for all the animals in need. In addition to the stray animals and animals that are surrendered by their owner, very often we take in animals that require a little extra space, time, attention, and love.

Whether it’s a litter of young kittens too small to be vaccinated or a dog in need of recovery time after an extensive surgery, Lake Humane Society couldn’t provide them the much-needed care without the help of our foster families.

How Foster Works

When an animal is in need of foster care, a pre-approved foster family is contacted to care for that animal. The foster parent may be required to bring the animal back to the shelter periodically for check-ups and vaccinations during the time they are fostering. Lake Humane Society will provide the foster family with the materials needed to foster such as food, bowls, litter, blankets, toys, and other supplies.

While the animal is in the foster program, LHS will be responsible for all of the animal’s medical treatment (including medications and vaccinations). If you are interested in becoming a foster for LHS, the first step is completing our volunteer application. Once you have submitted your application, you will be contacted by the Foster Coordinator and a short interview will be arranged.

Our Foster Program helps us save more lives and you can be a part of that!
